Mexican Train

Bring $3.25 in quarters and be prepared to laugh, as you strategize and outplay your dearest friends!

Any Game

You can play any game you like, and the people to play it – so long as they are all members.

We happen to have a mahjong table at the moment, but it could just as easily be Clue or Jenga, or Penny Canasta.

Mahjong

Mahjong is an ancient tile game where players form sets to chase wins.  It’s very serious; no laughing is allowed. 😄

Traditionally, Mexican train is played with dominoes – a 13 round game that takes approximately 3 1/2 hours to complete.  Each round is 25¢

All club Members are welcome. You do not need a reservation.  Ask for circle leaders for  Pam Sams or Suzanne Harper’s phone number if you have a question or wish to tell them you’re coming.

You do not have to know how to play, anyone in the group will show you.  Nor do you need to stay the whole time, plus you can show up late and still play…so long as you have your quarters!

The Game of Mexican Train

How to Play:
We way we play it, Mexican Train is a lively domino game where each player builds their own “train” of tiles, starting from the central hub. Everyone begins with a hand of dominoes, and the goal is to lay down tiles that match number to number, extending your personal train.

If you can’t play, you draw from the pile, and if you still can’t play, you mark your train so others may add to it.

A special “Mexican Train” line is open to all, giving extra opportunities to place tiles and keep the game moving with laughter and strategy.

How to Win:
Winning Mexican Train is all about smart tile management and keeping your options open.

  • Play your doubles early, since they must be answered immediately and can stall your turn if left too late.
  • Watch opponents’ trains carefully—sometimes it’s worth holding onto a tile to block their progress.
  • Balance your play between working on your own train and using the Mexican Train as an outlet when stuck.

Above all, focus on shedding your highest-value tiles first; when the round ends, leftover pips count against you. With a blend of foresight and timing, you’ll cruise into victory….though, of course, it’s not whether you win or not, it’s how you play the game!

Mahj is having a moment!

A popular game invented in China’s mid 1800s

mahjong

How does the game work?

Mahjong is a classic Chinese game played with 144 decorated tiles, blending skill, strategy, and chance. Popular worldwide, it thrives because it combines social interaction, mental challenge, and cultural tradition. Players aim to build sets—three or four of a kind, or sequences—and a winning hand, often compared to rummy. Four players take turns drawing and discarding tiles to complete their hands. Its popularity comes from its balance of luck and strategy, making every round unpredictable and engaging. Whether played casually or competitively, mahjong offers camaraderie, mental exercise, and timeless entertainment, which explains its enduring global appeal.
